Compared to the boys, girls have continued to drop out of school for a number of reasons. Some of them include the following;

  • Some parents look at the issue of educating girls as a wastage of resources. They therefore prefer to spend the little they have to educate boys forcing the girl child to drop out of school

  • Feelings of isolation contribute to dropping out of school in that after being harassed by fellow students, the only option is to drop out.

  • Greedy parents tend to marry off their daughters at an early age just because they are materialistic. They look at girls as a source of wealth.

  • They claim that majority of the teachers, counsellors, and administrators are not nice to them. In fact some teachers tell girls to marry after failing an exercise in class.

  • Girls are unable to access affordable sanitary care or facilities at school. T hey have to stay at home during their periods.

  • Gender bias in school especially in rural areas also forces them to drop out. The class environment tends to favour boys than girls.

  • Absenteeism, often triggered by feeling unsafe at school, can lead to dropping out completely. They are often subjected to domestic work which makes them stay at home.

A poem to mother about how much she is loved and will be missed.

How Can I Say Goodbye?

Mom its been a year  now since
God and His Angels called you away.
Oh how the Angels rejoiced as you walked
Through those Pearly Gates that day !

Mom when you went in a comma, it indicated
that your days were over, I refused to believe it
could be true. How could I allow myself to even
Imagine saying goodbye to you.

Mom you were an Angel here on earth
I learned so very much from you.
You were so gentle and so kind your
Smile would always see me through.

You taught me how to love unconditionally
And how to be my very best in all I do.
You gave your all to God and your family
Never once stopping to think about you.

You were more than a mother you were my
Best friend and a great listener too.
Oh how I miss our special talks, and
All the fun things we used to do.

Mom I can never say goodbye to you,
Because I could never bear the pain.
Instead I say I love you Mom
Until we meet again.

GENDER ROLES AT STAKE IN THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY.

Have you ever appreciated your gender? Born girl or born boy. Every gender has its great side of life and a few challenges in life. Each gender seems to have a specific role in life, say the females are blessed to be the mothers, the ones to bring forth life into this universe, although its very vital to note that the male gender has to aid the female continue the process of procreation. Do you think the human race to day, still has a task to uphold the unique duties attached to their gender, as per creation?

I am among those who support the idea of maintaining heterosexual relations in present society. How ever I am mindful of my brothers , sisters, our students , children who are convinced that the only way to go go is to involve in same sex relations. This is a challenge for you and me today, what has led to such ideas in society? And what is the way forward for you and me?

For any problem, there has to be a cause and definitely a solution. Can we share a few ideas that have led to such a challenge? I do believe that lack of proper sex education has probably contributed to such sex deviation in society. So the young and the old are out to try out new ideas without being mindful of the impact of their actions on society

I do suggest the implementation of serious sex education to all in society. In all African societies sex education was emphasised communally, there were institutions in place to emphasise sex education, such institutions are lacking today , lets teach the community the values of sex in life , create institutions to emphasise good sexual values. Thanks.

HOW TO CARRY OUT EFFECTIVE EVALUATION TO THE LEARNERS

Effective evaluation refers to measuring the extent to which targets are being met and detecting the factors that hinder or facilitate their realisation. It also involve establishing cost-effective relationship about the extent to which a particular policy produces the desired outcome.

Effective evaluation to the learners should have the following major aspects:

  • Examination is not meant to fail the students, but to help them move in the positive direction in academic be determine and sure about what they are learning.

  • A teacher should therefore test/examine the learners according to the set objectives. The questions should be selected from the content you have covered with the learners in order to allow both the learner and the teacher develop a conclusion about the topic.

  • We should know that passing examination may not necessarily mean that a student is very intelligent, but understanding and having the knowledge about the subject is also very important. So teachers should prepare their students to be able to achieve both during the teaching/ learning process. This will make our evaluation more effective and meaningful.

  • Effective examination should be achievable by the students in order for them to develop confident about the subject and even have interest to read more.

  • Effective evaluation should be easy to mark and revise with the learners through discussion in class or peer to peer discussion.
